Festival Itinerary & Daily Highlights
Day 1: Arrival in Jaffna & Festival Opening
Pickup from the Airport
Your driver and AC vehicle will be waiting at the Airport (BIA). Drive you to Jaffna Via Kurunegala stop for refreshments then on to Anuradhapura. Stop for refreshments. Transfer to your hotel in Jaffna for check-in.
Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil Visit
Visit the magnificent Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil, the spiritual heart of the festival. Witness the temple preparations, ornate decorations, and the gathering of devotees.
Evening: Flag Hoisting Ceremony
Attend the sacred flag hoisting ceremony (Kodi Yetram) that marks the official opening of the 25-day festival. Experience the devotional music and atmosphere.
Dinner at Hotel
Return to your hotel for a relaxing dinner and rest after the first day of festivities.
Day 2: Chariot Procession & Cultural Immersion
Morning: Breakfast at Hotel
Start your day with a hearty breakfast at the hotel before heading to the festival grounds.
Chariot Procession (Ther Thiruvizha)
Witness the spectacular chariot procession where the deity is carried on a grand chariot through the streets of Nallur. One of the most visually stunning events of the festival.
Afternoon: Jaffna Cultural Exploration
Explore Jaffna town, visit the Jaffna Public Library, Jaffna Fort, and the bustling market. Experience authentic Jaffna cuisine for lunch.
Evening: Festival Continues
Return to Nallur Kovil for evening rituals, devotional songs, and the vibrant atmosphere of the festival at night.
Day 3: Sacred Bathing Ceremony & Departure
Morning: Theertham (Sacred Bathing)
Witness the sacred bathing ceremony of the deity, a deeply spiritual ritual. Participate in the distribution of holy water (theertham) to devotees.
Temple of a Thousand Pillars
Visit the historic temple architecture and admire the intricate carvings, the thousand-pillared hall, and the golden gopuram (tower).
Return Journey
Your driver starts the journey back to BIA for your journey back to your country. End of an unforgettable spiritual journey.
